Human Resources or not, many workers have to deal with stress at home and on the job at the same time. You just DEAL WITH IT!! Think about being the company president. Or the CEO. Or the poor schmuck who has to make a deadline when his kid is home sick with the flu and his wife is about to leave him for another man. You just learn to cope. Or find yourself another job that is STRESS FREE!! And good luck with that. I don't think there is such a thing.

FYI - I own my own company, have about 40 people working under me. There is no Human Resources. Just me. I listen to them when they are having a bad day. Or when things aren't going right at home for them. And I still have to deal with my own family relationships, that aren't always so pleasant. Find a place to relax and unwind so you can clear your mind and jump back on the horse tomorrow. Like on Yahoo!Answers.

'Human Resources' at work is a fairly new phenomenon. I doubt that workers in the MIddle Ages, for example, had an HR counselor available to help them manage the stresses of life, although I'm sure that stress was just as great as today's.

I suggest that you develop a good 'safety net' of friends at work and at home, a solid relationship with your wife/husband, and outlets for your passions and aggressions so that you're not dependent upon the crutch provided by a 'Human Resources' department counselor. This is the best way, because if you lost your employment, you'd need even more support, and guess what? The HR counselor would most certainly NOT be 'there' for you anyway.

Everyone deals with a crisis differently, some people are able to separate their personal and professional lives quite well.

It's actually not as hard as you may think, if you have a crisis in your personal life and you go to work and stay busy, you are able to not think about the crisis at home quite often, which allows you to relieve some of the stress, thus allowing you to deal with your crisis more effectively when you do go back home and deal with it.

Most big companies have HR depts. and very few people take advantage of the counseling they offer the HP staff included because they prefer to handle their crisis' themselves.

its impossible for big family crisis not to intefer without professional lives. We are program in a certain way, just think about it. Maybe you can practice to focus really hard on only your work, while your working and your brain will automatically be program to focus once you get use to it. Its just takes practice but its really hard. Example a cop is not going to take the same actions arresting a man who beat his wife to almost death, than to a guy who was stealing food because he was extremely hungry. Get me? We are program, all of us.

You know, I feel for you...it is so hard to be a working adult in the USA now. We need to provide the employees in this country more opportunities to have health, mentally and physically. However, this country is hell bent on running on $$ so the health of employees is put on the back burner. I highly recommend that anyone without a HR department plan on meeting with someone on their own time. It is very important to take care of yourself...
