I have to write about why friends are important, which is kind of corny, but that's beside the point. I just can't think of anything else i could use to support my opinion beside my own.

it's perfectly ok to use personal experiences in an essay. In fact, it ADDS to the quality of the work you produce, because you know best the actual experiences you had.

Yes, depending on the type of essay and format your teacher expects you can certainly use your own experiences in an essay. However, most essays need to have concrete proof when arguing your thesis, which means primary or secondary resources. If its a formal essay, your opinion counts, but not your experiences. I'm guessing you're in highschool, so most teachers prefer essay with sound research. What is your topic? That might make getting help a little easier.

If it's an opinion piece, then your own experience is perfectly legitimate. But your argument will be stronger if you can find more evidence outside your personal experience, or a quote from someone well-known who agrees with you.
