Background: I'm currently 16 weeks pregnant with my second child. I'm actually still nursing my first. He'll be 14-15 months when this baby is born. I haven't decided whether or not I'll wean him or tandem nurse.

Problems: I would at least try tandem feeding, but I'm afraid of what will happen if I decide it's too hard. I imagine he would be very resentful if I wean him cold turkey after the baby is born. I'm mildly depressed more often than not and I had awful PPD after my son was born. I absolutely hated nursing and if it hadn't been for my husband's support, I most definitely would have given up. I really didn't enjoy breastfeeding until my son was about 3-4 months old.

Since my son will be over 1 year, if I have to choose, I will nurse the newborn. But if anyone has any tips or advice to get me through tandem nursing, that would be great. And if anyone has any ideas on how I can make breastfeeding more pleasant in general this time, that would be great too.

Thanks

I don't tandem nurse, but I ran across quite a few tandem nursers on the forum at babynamesworld.com
A lot of the people there get into debates and are rude, but I guess it's worth signing up for an account just to ask people some questions. There are a few nice people there.

it may be a little mroe pleasant and easier this time you have been experienced it for the past 10-11 months. you can waen your son to just a couple feedings per day and it will be much easier for you to nurse the baby as wel as your son. you wont be so paranoid this time worrying about if you're doing it right your nipples will be used to it. involve your son with the baby and make it seem like he is an important role in helping you:) like hes mommy's little helper

I on no account planned to tandem nurse. My daughter grow to be 13 months previous while my son grow to be conceived, and he or she weaned sometime for the duration of being pregnant while my milk dried up. yet my son had latch subject in the initiating , and that i grow to be afraid my milk might dry up previously he discovered to breastfeed. a buddy reported I placed my infant lower back on the breast to help facilitate my milk pass, and it worked. yet another earnings of tandem nursing grow to be to their sibling courting. My daughter began hitting her brother and having temper tantrums over the attention he won. It actual helped her alter while she knew she might have a turn to nurse as quickly because of the fact the infant grow to be complete. She did no longer nurse for long sessions of time, it grow to be extra for convenience, even though it grow to be adequate to maintain her from feeling jealous or "replaced" by potential of her brother.

Support would be helpful. I'd try some LLL meetings, if you haven't already or the boards on KellyMom.
