I'm really into music, let me give you a few suggestions:

Mat Kearney - He's fantastic and has deep songs with amazing lyrics. Look into him.
Sarah McLachlan - I know you've probably heard her radio stuff, but check out her other stuff. Specifically songs such as: Fear, Answer, Hold On, and I Love You.
Lifehouse - Also another I'm sure you've heard the radio stuff, but listen to Everything, and Simon. Deep songs.
For a super deep song try Embrace - Out of Nothing. I can only listen to it now and then cause it drains me. If you like those e-mail me and I'll give you more. boyjtp@hotmail.com

Try Arctic Monkeys, they're kind of chill and indie rock with lyrics people can relate to. Arcade Fire are kind of an indie jam folk band with interesting and deep lyrics. Art Brut are and indie band with really good lyrics about life and stuff.
