Where you move is of course dependent on many factors.
As far as climate, all the fine people who are not from the area or have visited only for a short period make ignorant comments saying it is always hot or it will dry up. Of course the other ignorant people complain about the humidity. I guess the condensation from the drying up is causing the high humidity...gee what a brilliant climate concept.
Northern California, is cooler than Southern Texas. To think it wouldn't be would be foolish. However, the Average high temperature for SATX in July is 94 dgrees (about 7 degrees hotter than Denver) in the winter the average low in January is 39 degrees (about 25 degrees warmer than Denver) most of the year the highs are high 70s to mid 80s and lows in the 60s.
The lifestyle of SATX is not like Northern California either.
Kevin was correct in saying AUstin is more similar to California in attitude, but most people are finding that the Austin of the 70s which spanned the Keep AUstin Weird slogan is dead, and a new business oriented high tech city with lots of traffic and very little personality is taking it's place.
SA is a city rapidly growing, strugling with a small town attitude. There is still a constant fiesta feel and many festivals and tourist events, though the growth of the Medical Center and other business is taking hold.
SA is a great city, and a wonderful place to live. But it is up to you to decide where it is best for you to live.
I think you could do no better than San Antonio!

We currently manage a home for some people from Northern California that came down last February to "check out our city" They could not believe the prices of the homes, friendliness of the people etc...... Long story short they custom built a new home. Moved in March 06. The wife lasted here 3 weeks and could not take the "extreme heat"! (It was only April), she packed up her things and moved back to California.
Moral I guess is, the weather here is very different than Northern California, so perhaps you should visit in July Or August to get a "real" feel for San Antonio!

Well its totally your choice. However i moved here about 10 yrs ago via Uncle Sam i grew up in SoCal and i decided to stay here. The vibe here is different just as the 2 Californias are. Have u visited here before u decide to move? It does have a small town feel at times with lots of fun things going on around town. The people here are friendly but I have noticed crime has gone up a little bit but never anything like where i grew up so its still not bad. The school system here isnt to bad North side and North East are your 2 best bets. NW and NE are big growing areas in town. The other area thats taking off is by the Toyota plant and Kelly area which is South lots of good things going on down there new homes and stores that lacked there. The summer is something u have to get used to since its humid but thats why we have AC right. The thing you will miss is the Pacific ocean (I do) and the seafood (I do). Good Luck with your choice. BTW if you are a Niners fan stay there dont come, we need more Raiders fans here (joke)

I would rent a place here during the summer mos. and see if you could take the heat and humidity before you made a permanent move..Its takes awhile to adjust..Especially coming from Northern Calif..People are attracted here by the affordable housing and do not consider the climate and cultural change..Housing may be cheaper, but alot of other factors go in the mix too..Study up on the state before you make a move..Texas is Grand and getting more populated daily.

It thoroughly relies upon on what you do. and that i will basically communicate for DFW & Austin. And of that, the IT sector. It is going devoid of asserting that once you're in healthcare, it extremely is an open door. acceptable now feet worth is experiencing a bigger boom than Dallas. often interior the greater value-effective outer aspects. on the very surprising side there is an insane quantity of issues to do in DFW. Dallas continues to be potential in spite of the incontrovertible fact that it extremely is tough. acceptable now there is an oddly super variety of jobs popping out at the instant regardless of the plain deliver approximately a recession. a great number of stuff to do right here. yet a great number of loopy site visitors in the process DFW. i individually somewhat dig Austin and could flow there if particular issues have been distinctive. Small college city experience blended with sturdy music scene. on the undesirable site visitors is extremely screwed. And the variety of IT professions relative to the inhabitants is whacked so the $$$ ought to no longer be acceptable. (DFW is like that, yet no longer as undesirable.) sturdy success.

ABSOLUTELY!!! I'm actually moving to San Antonio sometime next year from Miami. Here in Miami everyone is rude and although it has its good people it has ALOT of bad people which raises the crime level. San Antonio is amazing. People are so nice, it is very diverse and just a beautiful city to live in. (I have lived there). Also the weather is amazing.

I wouldn't! If I were to move anywhere from the western North Carolina mountains, it would be to either northern Califonia or Oregon or Washington, or maybe even to British Columbia, but not too close to the ocean or west of that fault line.
Texas is going to dry up. It's way too hot there too. But that's just me. Maybe you like hot weather rather than cold or cooler weather. Or there maybe other reasons more important to you.
If you had asked for details and given more in your question you would have originally received more details.
