COMODO Antivirus,is a relative newcomer and a freeware. At the moment this may or may not be the best, but I think that it should be included in any consideration of freeware antivirus.I have high regard for the other programs already recommended and do not want to duplicate.Good luck!!.http://www.freewarefiles.com/program_17_244_20607.html

There are plenty of free antivirus programs. All have their pro's and con's. By far the 3 most popular antivirus programs are AVG, Avast and Antivir. Of the 3, Antivir has the highest detection and removal rate. But, Antivir does not scan incoming e-mails while both AVG and Avast scan incoming and outgoing e-mails. Of the 3, AVG uses the least amount of computer resources but also has the lowest detection and removal rate. Avast has a decent detection and removal rate but not as good as Antivir. Avast uses more resources than both AVG and Antivir. If you want to see a review of these 3 programs, you can read PC World Magazines article:
"Top Antivirus Software" (http://www.pcworld.com/article/124475-1/article.html).
You can find all 3 antivirus program at www.filehippo.com. Look under antivirus.

For your anti-virus needs, I would suggest Avira AntiVir® PersonalEdition Classic. It has excellent heuristics, a virus detection rate that is better than most "paid-for" anti-virus programs and is light on using your computer's resources. Uses less then 10 MB RAM on my machine. And did I mention that it's free!
Download here:

BTW, Avoid the free version of an anti-virus called AVG, it is wildly popular with noobs, the naive, the computer illiterate, and children, but it has horrible virus detection capibilities.
Also, Norton and McAfee are NOT free! And Windows Defender is an anti-spyware , it is NOT a "virus guard".
Enjoy!

It does an stressful popup as quickly as on booting in spite of the shown fact that it variety of feels to have the terrific database of virus signatures. each and every 3 hundred and sixty 5 days somebody greater suitable comes alongside. The question is particularly nicely worth asking each and every so frequently.

Windows Defender or Avast, the rest are too intrusive and hog a lot of resources!
