I am older (50), female, divorced and just having some difficulties in my life that I would like to be able to talk to someone about--someone (or someones) who are supportive, not mean or that cut you down. I can't afford counseling right now but I feel if I just had some understanding people to talk with, I could handle this stuff. Any suggestions?

Wow!! Just the fact that I got some many nice answers from so many caring people makes me feel better! I appreciate all your answers, especially those who were willing to talk to me personally--goodness, makes me realize there are people out there who care--something I was having a hard time with lately. I am going to check out a few of the addresses I was given--thank you all so much--I think I just mainly need someone to talk to who will be supportive--don't have a lot of that right now and it can get very hard--divorced at 50, money being really tight, old car, etc, etc.--just tough sometimes. Thanks so much to all of you!

Y!A is kind of a cheap therapy. Feel free to add me as a contact and email me. I'm a good listener.

Are you having a problem with depression, or specific circumstances/incidents or what exactly? It sounds like you need a good friend. There are some places that offer low cost counseling such as churches, or there are some great books out there that may be uplifting for you. It's hard to tell unless you are more specific with what is troubling you.

Forget on line.

There are support groups for divorced people out there that are free. Try local Churches.

You will get out of it exactly what you need...especially after you have been there for a while and you begin to help others.

Good luck. I will pray for you.

I wasn't sure where to direct you.. difficulties with the divorced person, health, children? Groups seem to gather around specific problems. I wish you well.

Try www.WomansDivorce.com and iVillage.com. Dr.Phil.com is also a good one to visit. And, you can do search with something like "support groups for divorced women".
