I depends on the age group. Also whether the problem to face is external or internal.
Internally speaking the younger the child the more fundimental, or broader the category of struggle.
A child of 3 or 4 may have, however fleeting, worries of learning things that all the big people around them can do easily. Not being Potty trained when everyone else seems to be and you just can't catch on yet is a fantastic delema. It's not too complicated the younger you are.
THERFORE
The closer a child gets to puberty and the changes it puts them through, the more personal and specific things get. From the more superficial :Does anyone like me? Am I "cool" enough? Oh my god my nose is too big for my face! . To the complicated: Why am I here? What makes ME different/unique/special? Can I make a difference in the world?
And of course it just gets easier when you grow up...^_~
As for external, it could be any number of things. As you said: Abusive parents, bullies, but also poverty, hunger, illness.
Whatever type of conflict you touch on remember external conflict seldom goes without internal.
BUT!!!
Never forget that there are GOOD experiences also!!!! First love, new family members (baby or no), new friends, Best friends and the list goes on. Whatever bad is out there, there is always good somwhere to counter balance it.

Children in my day where teased or made fun of for no reason, anything to put you down or demean you. Never one guy alone, took 2 to have the nerve. I was faced with insecurity, fear, failure & etc.. Just what they wanted to make me feel bad. But I tried not to show hurt & rather shrugged them off. I had a sad life up to that point & I hurt for yrs..
How about a bad complexion ? Crude remarks in earshot ?
Spreading rumors about you ? Faced with prediters.
Children today are faced with all sorts of dangers to & from school & are on edge at school because of mean students.
It was bad for me 67 yrs. ago. We all know that we live in a much different world today. Not for the better. Sorry. Hate to write such negative stuff. No other way to answer your question. Just do your best at school work so you can have a good future and try to avoid & ignore the rude & mean ones.~

Kids are pushed around alot, by either their mates or especially adults. They are made to do things they dont want to like go to places with their parents, eat food they dont like either at home or in schoold, wear clothes they dont like becuase their parents buy for them. They get jealous when they see their peers with something they dont own. They are not sure who to trust, parents can be abusive, they can be threatened by anyone. They do not always get to make decisions or have a say in public, people [adults] dont always believe children when they say things like- the guy made a pass at me or i saw bla bla bla......Children want to grow up fast so they can work and buy anything they want and start dating.

Having one parent is not a detriment! It's a different lifestyle that's not the norm. Just wanted to add my 2 cents. And to answer your question, some children face poverty --- with one parent or TWO!!!

Just scale down the problems you have to half and there's your paper right there. Snacks, movies, tv, video games, going out to play, getting punished, escaping punishment, mom and dad leaving you with a stranger (babysitter), granny giving you cookies on your birthday, etc. :)
