What do you think Hamlet wants to achieve? Does he succeed in achieving it, or does he fail? (Or is he a little of both, a success in some ways, a failure in others?) This isn't a question with only one right answer. You just have to pay attention to the text. Whether you think he's a success or a failure, you have to justify your opinion with evidence from the play..

there are two perspectives to take. one is that hamlet was mad, acting mad, playing the fool, and the pile of bodies at the end completely subverts the moral order of the king's divine right, and unmasks what's really happening.

for the more traditional point of view, getting rid of the unnatural, or unkind king restores the correct line of kings, and avenges his father's death. so, if you think shakespeare was employed by the court, use this one. if you think he was a renegade, genius artist, use the first one.
