Every since I got on the depo shot my periods have been out of control. I've been on depo for nine months now. And its been 2 1/2 months since I've got my last period. And also I've been eating like I'm a pregnant person, almost everything I see. I'd say before I got on depo nine months ago I weighed 100 pounds and now I weigh 112 pounds. They say the shot blows you up, gets you big, and makes you feel pregnant. And every since I've got on depo, I have discharge every day, it's been more discharge since Ive got on the shot. Sometimes it's clear sometimes it's yellowish and sometimes brownish. Is this normal to not have a crazy period when on the depo shot? And is it true that I could get fat by being on the depo shot? Tell me everything you know about depo, or an experience with depo of your own.

I would never recommend it for anyone.

I was on it, and it was horrible.

I have been on the depo for quite awhile now. I weighed about 97 lbs when I started and I got to be around 120 lbs. The shot decreased my metabolism (which was sky high...I could eat anything and not gain a pound) and it increases your appetite and even today I could eat all day and never feel full. It seems like I was eating like a pregnant person but the truth is that I was always so hungry ANYTHING would sound good!!! To decrease the weight problem (because I am also short and petite) I took up some simple exercises targeting the areas that didn't look as flattering and turned alot of the fat into muscle and now I'm around 108 lbs and have managed a flat stomach and toned thighs and butt (although thighs and butt run in my family so that may not have had anything to do with the shot as much but thats where a lot of my weight went.) One thing about the shot is that you have to be able to dedicate some time in the gym (which its good to be in shape regardless it just kicked my butt in gear when i started to gain) As far as periods go I have had a period every month like normal although they are much shorter than before I was on the shot. Keep in mind that every woman is different and when you mess with hormones ANYTHING is possible. Depending on your discharge it could be one of two things you may have a bacterial infection (usually when the discharge is colored and it sometimes has a faint odor) or it may be an attempt at a period (if that makes since) which would explain the brown color. Either way consult your doctor about it to make sure that it isn't an infection because the longer it is left alone the worse it can be. My advice is that since you have been on it for 9 mths you may want to switch to another type of birth control. The depo is the best thing that has happend to me but for some women it has been the worst. Try maybe the ring, the patch, or the ever so annoying to keep up with pill (in fact they have made some pills that you don't have to take EVERY day) so discuss some different methods with your doctor to find something that bests suits you! Hope I helped a little bit!!

I've been off the Depo Shot for about six years now. I will have to say it took several years before my cycle became "regular". While on the Shot my periods stop. I don't recall really having that much spotting either and I didn't gain an excessive amount of weight. All things I found no reason to complaint about.

The down side was that I felt tired all the time and my body was always achy. I went to different doctors, but they never found anything wrong with me. Sad...because I was young they made me feel like it was all in my mind. Also during this time I developed a cyst on my breast which was benign and shortly after I stop taking the Depo I found out I had a cyst on my ovaries. Not to say the cyst were a result of using Depot, but I feel it played a part.

After being on the Depo for almost 5 years I decided to go chemical free. The aches and pains went away and my overall mood improved. The biggest adjustment for me was having a period again.

What ever method you decide on do some extensive research on it and remember that any chemical will have its pros and cons.

Made sure the cons don't make you miserable. Good Luck!!

Depo shuts down your period. However, for the first couple of months you may get spotting. Which is the discharge you are describing . Some women get extra hungry while on this medication and gain quite a bit of weight. It sounds like you may be in this group. I would not get my next Depo shot and go on birth control pills. Call your doctor and discuss it now, as the Depo shot will only be effective for 13 weeks as a contraceptive.

My friend got pregnant on the depo shot.

And yes, it makes you gain weight.
