The main thing I love about reading are the words that you can learn in the book. If there is a word in a book that I don't understand, I just grab the dictionary, or go on the computer and look it up. I love reading a book because I can immerse myself in their world, and forget the one that is around me. While that's NOT always a good thing, I just cant seem to help myself. Reading takes you to a different place and time. Whether its historical books, or contemporary books, they just seem to make your world fade into the background. I love reading soo much, and its really funny because I used to HATE it. The summer that I discovered reading was when I was a freshman in high school. My mother had a bookshelf filled to capacity with books. I mean, it was just overwhelming. I had never paid much interest in them before, but I was bored so I wandered downstairs to her library, and that is when my discovery began. By the end of that summer, I had read almost half of the books that were on my mother's shelf. I am a fast reader. Very fast. I guess its no wonder why I am a writer now. My passion for books has lead me in this direction, and I dont regret it for a second! Reading is what you make of it. It can be a boring experience, or it can be the most enlightening hobby you can ever know.

Great question. I am a bookseller, and I find a lot of comfort in reading. I must spend about $100 a month on Amazon.com on books! I'm addicted! I love reading because, I might learn something I didn't know before, I am on a Hunter S. Thompson jag right now and I have to find out ALL about him. (just finished "Gonzo") Reading comforts me. It makes me THINK. So many reasons. I think reading is very important in this society.

I love to learn...even knowledge that I'll never put to use. I mean, there is no practical purpose for me knowing that quarks come in six "flavors" (up, down, charmed, strange, top, and bottom), but I enjoyed reading about particale physics.
The other thing I love about reading, is that a good book can transport you....either in time, to the lifetimes of Thomas Edison, Charlemagne, Mozart, or Babe Ruth. Or it can whisk you away to places like Australia, the Yukon, Starfleet Academy, the planet Pern, or Hogwarts.
What a good book can do for you is the closest thing to magic that there is.

It's like you're in a different world. If you really get into reading (like I do), you can escape your world and try to experience someone else's.
I love fantasy, becase it's like you're a kid again- thinking about stuff that can't really happen in real life. It's fun to pretend like you're doing something that you know you could NEVER do.
Its amazing how I'll be reading, and be really into it. It's like I cn picture what's going on inside my head- like a movie, or something. But once something distracts me, I'm get this feeling I can't describe. It's almost like a surprise, or like I snap back into reality.
I love it!

It takes me into worlds beyond my imagination, or helps me to understand different religions, races, etc. It opens my mind and eyes to ideas that I could never obtain by living in this small town. I love my town, but it's not very diverse and books change that for me. I love reading.
