Do you think it is possible that someone might discover (a) a new element with atomic number 122; (b) a new element that would fit between magnesium and aluminum in the periodic table? Explain.

No because you cant have 1/2 a valence electron. And an element 122 might be possible but very unlikely and would require nuclear bombardments and such of various things. Depends if we discover new waves of radiation in atoms or if we can reach absolute zero who knows.

Think about the definition of atomic number in terms of number of protons in the nucleus. Then check out the atomic numbers of magnesium and aluminum. Take it from there.
