When I use PC Drummer on my Compaq laptop (750 mhz) I get all the volume I want, but on my HP desktop (2.8 ghz) I can't get enough volume. Both have XP, and the volume control is maxed on the desktop. Do I need another soundcard? How can volume be increased?

You can get louder sound by purchasing POWERED external speakers. The speakers will "amplify" the computer's signals. If the speakers are NOT POWERED, the sound will be the same loud as the computer

the logitech z-2300 are the best 2.1 system you can get for $130. they are definitely worth it :)

You can increase the volume but adjusting the volume button but you need to make sure that the adjustment on the "CD" volume and the "wave" volume is slide to the max position. You can find these adjustment under "control panel--> sounds and audio devices---> advanced button"
