In Shakespeare's Merchent of Venice, how would you characterize the two worlds of Venice and Belmont?

How would I characterize them? I'd start by reading the play and paying special attention to the differences between Portia's female-dominated world (Belmont), where everything seems to revolve around the issue of courtship, and the male-dominated world of Venice, where all the action seems to be concerned with business and finance.
