I think it is time for me to ditch my onboard graphics on my computer and have a real GPU. I was thinking of getting Nvidia or ATI Graphics. Either way I will buy a card with 256 MB of VRAM. So which is better I mostly play The Sims 2 w/ many Expansions and Rollercoaster Tycoon 3.

I have to agree I have a PNY (Nvidia just under different name) GeForce 6800 GS, and it is a good card for the price (which is quite low now-a-days as it has been out for a couple of years.

I would go with Nvidia. I have an ATI card right now and I have had to get it RMA'ed 3 times and every 2 weeks with this card I have now I have to reinstall the drivers. I am not saying all ATI cards are like this but I have talked to a few people that have the same problems with different ATI cards other than mine. Other people will say ATI cause they are cheaper. ATI has just released a new card though that is DirectX 10.1 the XT2600 I think it is called. I plan on building a system in about 2 more months and am definitely getting Nvidia cause all the reviews I read even with the newest ATI card Nvidia is still on top.
I plan on getting the 8800GT when it is finally released. With 512Mb of DDR3 memory for about $230. That card will definitely play the games you wnat to play and then some of the newest games as long as your processor and memory are good enough.

Well, whether the ATi or Nvidia card is better will be based upon your budget. If you are spending under 200, then the Radeon HD3850 is one of the best bangs for your buck at a retail price of around 179. The step up will be an HD3870 for 220 or better yet the Nvidia 8800GT for 249 if you can find one since most places have either marked them up well above MSRP or are simply out of stock.

Depends on what you like better, ATI is known to have better color quality. Nvidia is known more for it's raw power.

In your case you should first lay down a base price that you want to spend, then you need to know what kind of expansion slot you have open. ie Pci, Pci e, AGP whatever your case may be this will have a direct effect on what your upgrade possiblities are.

Hi. I use an older Radeon 9800 Pro 128 and it plays RTC3 very well. I'm an ATI fan but both are great cards.

Nvidia hands down. It matters which one you have. Nvidia6800 Geforce or a newer version of ATI. Otherwise just pick Nvidia.
