Technically, the first European to cross North America was Cabeza de Vaca and 3 others from the Narvaez expedition. He walked from Galveston, Tx to Culican Mexico in 8 years. If you don't like this answer then you need to qualify the question by "the first European to cross North America, north of Mexico", since Mexico is North America. Then the answer would be, if you're Canadian, Alexander Mackenzie who did it in two expeditions. If you want to know who's crossed it the most times, then the answer would be Forrest Gump.
