I've forgotten her exact wording, but she tells Proctor that the fact that he slept with her meant an unspoken promise that he would leave his wife to be with her. John denies this, saying that what happened was sheer animal passion. As the person above me said, check the play yourself. This is probably for school, and you will get a better mark if you can develop the idea more than I was able to remember.
