only if they own the shop. They spend a lot on tools and the owner doesn't reimburse them.. they don't get any $45-60, that's the shop rates in some areas, some are even higher $45-90. The poor mechanic only gets $15-25 tops and has to buy all his own tools.
The best paid mechanics are heavy duty diesel mechanics, if they're union they get $35

You are training to be a mechanic because that is what you want to be so why are you worried what anyone else thinks? Repairing cars is an honest and honorable way to make a living and there is always a job for a good mechanic. As to the money, you won't make as much as a doctor or a lawyer, but you can still make a living, raise a family and retire happy.

depends on where you live. but on average no shops make a lot of money the mechanic doesnt even see a third of what the shop gets for the work he has done. where I live some places pay $6-$7 per hour an others $10-$25 but if you really want to make money at it do it for yourself i make more for myself in a 2 days than i did in a week at a shop but i do that by being mobile i dont want the headache of overhead from a shop plus its not a whole lot of mobile mechanics you can charge less than shops so people will come or you will go

The best pay I've heard of is in the Dallas Fort Worth area. Search on the internet for mechanic jobs in that area, I'm surprised how much some of them are willing to pay.
Normally its very hard work, not a lot of benefits and the pay isn't so good. Generally the area that you work is unheated and not airconditioned.

No they don't. They keep having to spend money on tools, training and new equipment. Maybe if you live in a big city and work for a high end dealer you might. Not many jobs in America pays good anymore

I have made up to $35 an hour depends on where you go. If your good at it dealerships pay top dollar as well as private. Most cash is your own shop but that involves overhead and all that fun stuff.

They can, and they may not. Depends on experience, and where you work....Xpress lube and mechanic shop, own your own shop, or for a major dealership. Those things play a big factor.
