I am seriously searching for another job but until I land it maybe some of you folks can offer me a bit of advice on how to deal with this nutcase? It's just a part-time job in which I work 9-2 M-Thurs. as his assistant. He's a one-man office. He's let me go once saying he couldn't afford to pay me then hired me back a month later saying he could only pay me Mon-Thurs. Thus he's gone out since and purchased a new home, two new cars, new cell phone, etc. The business bank account is always overdrawn. The money he is charged in overdraft fees could pay me for 2-3 weeks! He always leaves the office and says "I won't be back" then 30 minutes later he always shows back up - like he's trying to catch me doing something. I just look at him weird and don't say anything. I'm always working so no thrill for him. He's a Type A bipolar arrogant jerk - I've managed to work for him going on 2 years and I just can't take anymore. Why is he such a jerk to me when all I do is help him?

Well i am a boss, and his sort of behaviour to you is unexcusable. My advise , start shopping for another job and when you land it get out before you regret staying. There are a lot better employers out there.

Sounds like torture. My advice in the time being is hire a headhunter for Admin or whatever you specialize in and wait for that. Or you can apply for the city. City jobs are always looking for admins and they pay pretty well without the complaints as your current boss may be in. Not much you can do if this guy just an arrogant bastard. What especially gets me is that he cant pay you. This guy won't last long if he continues to be like this. Well, another thing you can do is report it to HR. (If you have one that is) But, best thing to do is find another job. Good Luck!

its a typical struggle of power. Your boss thinks very highly of himself and when things go wrong he can only take it out on a person lower than him. Im sure this man has problems at home and the financial worries you've describe could only fuel this fire. The best and only option for you is to leave and look for another part-time job, anywhere. This will show your boss that he cant walk all over you and he'll think twice before he treats his future assistants with such lack of care.

umm sounds like he is the type who trys to live like he has money but in reality he can't afford anything. this is the worst type of person to deal with because when he hits rock bottom he may try to take you with him. He may be trying to get you on some thing that he can get you into Cort for! I would quit this job ASAP if you can. He sounds like he is a dirt bag.

look every boss is hard to deal with. ive had prolly 7 diff bosses in my lifetime so far and a boss is a boss they are all the same and all hard to work for. Just go into a job or career you like and bust your asss so that you dont have to take crap from a boss anymore cuz the boss will be you.

People like that do not discriminate. They act like jerks to all people who have less status than them selves. Don't worry about how he handles the business, you will only get upset. It is his problem not yours. You are right in trying to find work else where, good luck.

This isn't unusual. There are a lot of bosses whose behavior is irrational and totally, TOTALLY selfish. I wish you the best in finding a better position.

with all due respect, i'm bipolar and don't act this way.

hon, if you don't like your job, then find another one... if your boss bothers you and if you feel uncomfortable around him, what is the use in continuing with the job? doesn't make sense to me.

take care of YOU.
