My gambling in laws moved in over a year and a half ago, on the basis it would just be a few months. Now they have bounced the $200.00 rent check(which just covers the cost to have them here and the groceries) for the THIRD TIME. How much notice do you give them, considering it is the holiday season? remember: they must go, they will never take responsibility for their actions if we keep bailing them out. My husband said that he will back me on what ever I say as long as I am fair. So what is a "fair" amount of notice?

Generally I consider 30 days to be sufficient notice for them to make other arrangements.

I doubt that they even have the legal right to that.

Since they bounced the rent check you could actually give them a 3 day notice to quit if you wanted to be hard nosed about it.

Well fro the legal side of it you only have to give 30 days notice. I would write up something and give it to them and have them sign it if they will. Also never take a check always cash! Good luck I know this is a hard one but maybe it ts time for a little hard love

Eviction is actually a legal action taken by a court. The best way to get them out is give them 30 days notice, if it becomes apparent to you that they will not be out in the time you allotted, start the eviction process. Go to your local town hall to get information.

Tell them that they are welcome to join you for Christmas dinner, and that they should start packing the day after Christmas. When they look aghast (and they will) simply tell them that you mean business, and that they should start seeking other living arrangements NOW, so that they are prepared to move out by the end of December.

For family, I would give him 2 months. They'll need to save some money to move out. Tell them as soon as possible so if they need to work 2 jobs to get the money to move they can.
