I have DSL from AT&T and it runs at 768k. Not only on my computer, but all the computers in the house, the internet is going really really slow, the connection is horrible. I have tried repairing the connection, unplugging the modem, everything! I have a wireless connection if that makes any difference. I have always had the wifi and my internet has always been fast so it doesn't make any sense, and my connection is also secure. Whats wrong and how do I fix it?
Help!!!!

If your Computer is far from the modem, connection tends to be really slow. My uncle in his bedroom, pulls internet from modem in the living room. His connection really stinks in the bedroom. My computer is only 4 feet from the modem. I have AWESOME connection.

Your connection speed may have been mistakenly downgraded at AT&T. Call the technical department and tell them how slow it is now, and that you want them to do a speed check on your connection. Don't just let them tell you it is fine after one measly test. I had that occur with Qwest once, and had to call back three times before the tech department discovered the issue was a mistaken downgrade in my connection speed contract.

If that is not what it is, it very well could be a problem on AT&Ts side. Have them check if anyone else is having issues on their speed suddenly going down, as sometimes when they do a repair at a facility, or somewhere a line goes down, other things such as this can occur too.

The thing about unhooking or unplugging your modem or router because it is too old is garbage. I have never heard of a speed reduction simply because a piece of machinery is a bit long in the tooth. It can break, but not just reduce your speed. If it IS old, you may want to consider replacing it just because the newer models have more features such as security with WPA2 now.

Good luck and a very nice holiday season.
