Download the programs linked below. Install them. Update them. Scan your pc with them, and do so weekly.

If you have System Restore turned on, the Restore files may be infected, and trying to reinfect your pc. I turn off that feature, reboot to delete the files, then turn it on after a full system scan with AVG.

Turning off System Restore.
(right-click My Computer, Properties, System Restore tab, check the box to turn off System Restore on all drives.)

Restart your PC, and hold down the F8 key.
When you see the Boot Menu appear (black screen white letters), choose SAFE MODE.

Run a FULL SYSTEM SCAN with AVG.
You can heal or quarentine anything found.

You can also run Spybot and AdAware while in Safe Mode. I suggest you do a full system scan. Get rid of anything they find.

To exit Safe Mode, just restart your PC normally.

AVG Antivirus - Free Antivirus Software
(CNET: "AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition is the most popular free solution available at no cost to home users and provides the high level of detection capability that millions of users around the world trust to protect their computers.")

Ad-Aware - Free Antispyware Software
(CNET: "One of the first applications built to find and remove adware and spyware, Ad-Aware 2007's excellent reputation is well-justified.")

Spybot Search&Destroy - Free Antispyware/Antitrojan Software
Some REALLY great features of Spybot Search&Destroy: Its ability to help your PC block known spyware/hijacker sites with Immunize feature, a Secure Shredder for truly removing files from your PC, and Startup, which allows you to view the files starting with Windows.

SuperAntiSpyware
SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition is 100% Free and will detect and remove thousands of Spyware, Adware, Malware, Trojans, KeyLoggers, Dialers, Hi-Jackers, and Worms. SUPERAntiSpyware features many unique and powerful technologies and removes spyware threats that other applications fail to remove.

Hope this helps.

I'm not sure where you downloaded webroot from but it may be either a rogue program (meaning it pretends to be good when it is in fact a bad program) or you are infected with more than that...

I would strongly recommend you invest in a proper security suite (antivirus, firewall, antispyware, etc) from a reliable vendor (like a mcafee or a norton) and ensure it is properly configured and completely up to date... and of course uninstall any other crapware and reboot first .

Then I would turn OFF system restore (right-click my computer > properties > restore >) until this is cleaned and then turn it back on to create a clean restore point.

Ensure the security suite is completely up to date and rebooted then perform a complete system scan with all programs shut down.

You can also do a web based scan and removal from http://housecall65.trendmicro.com but that is not a solution it is only a band-aid.

Good Luck

Sounds like advertisements. A good popup blocker will fix that. The best anit-spyware package is actually from Microsoft. It is called Windows Defender, and it is free. I have included a link for it.

PS. Having more than one Anti-virus software or more than one Anti-spyware package on your computer is a BAD idea. You only need one of each.

Try using Windows Defender which is free and searches for spyware and doing a free online virus scan at trendmicro.com http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ or the one Microsoft offers called Safety Scanner. http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm
Maybe even try both just to be on the safe side. May take awhile to do though.
I just did a search for comparison charts on antivirus and trendmicro has one of the best online free scanners. Kaspersky and Nod32 are the best to have installed on your computer, I have Nod32 and love it and NEVER have had a virus....YET. Can't wait for their full suite to be available. Nod32 using little system memory and is the fastest of all the antivirus programs for scanning.

Take XPs advice and get more than one antispyware program. Some are free and are pretty good. Other programs like Spyware doctor from registry mechanic you have to pay for and you pay for a yearly contract of upgrades to the software.

I think that my system may have a virus but my software doesn't detect it. My friend's software package detects a virus but my antiviral software doesn't see anything. What should I do?
If you think that your system has a virus, don't panic. Make sure that you have the most current version of antiviral software. If one package sees something that another doesn't, make sure that both packages are up to date. If you are using the current version of antiviral software and it still doesn't see anything, bring a copy of the suspect files to your local support provider; he or she can have the files examined.

If you suspect that you have a boot sector infector, format a disk on the system and bring it to your support provider.

You're using Microsoft software - they have the worst computer security record on the planet. Your best option is to format & reinstall. Your second best option is to use SuperAntiSpyware

http://www.superantispyware.com

Upgrade to Linux to be free from Microsoft spyware.
