This is the same as saying 45/1 * 9/5

You multiply the tops then the bottoms

(45*9)/(1*5) = 405/5 = 81

the 45 and 5 cancel making the problem 9 x 9

45/1 * 9/5= the 5 becomes one and the 45 becomes 9 and therefore 9*9=81

9/5=1 4/5 so
45*1=45 and
45*4/5=36
45+36=81
Of course I like to do things the long way.

45 (9/5)= 405/5 or 81

When multiplying a whole number by a fraction, just multiply the whole number by the numerator. After multiplying, if possible get the lowest term of the fraction. To find get the lowest term, first get the Greatest Common Factor of the numerator and the denominator,but if there is no Greatest Common Factor your answer is already in the simplest form/lowest term.
