free computer programs will never work quite right for this. I highly recommend going down to your local music store and picking up any basic tuner they sell there... you can usually get one for around 20 dollars, which isn't that much considering it will last you a good 20 years if you take care of it.

Good Luck!

I use a BOSS TU-80. Not expensive and works great. Also has built in Metronome.

P.S. I do not work for them :{)>

I would also suggest every time after you tune with the tuner follow up with using your ear. After a while you will learn what it sounds like in tune and you can just do it by ear.

I purchased a strobe-light tuner in 1978 that cost $35. The tuner is made by Ovation, but I have yet to find another just like it. In my opinion, strobe tuners provide the best tuning in dark, noisy places. So long as the string vibrates, it can be precisely tuned.

It is powered by a 9-volt battery and its tuning tongue that holds the strobe window is inserted under the strings.

If another tuner as this can be found I highly recommend getting it.

i never used online ones...i always used a korg CA-30 chromatic pocket tuner, or, my fender pedal tuner (PT-100)
i always found, like you said, that they left my bass out of tune

i dont know but i know what you mean. the ones online suck. they never tune right. so what i do is just get the low E from one of the sites or from a song and just tune it by ear. it works a lot better!
