well what is 6%..6/100 or .06
so we can do this in two steps or one
TWO STEP METHOD
1. Multiply 22.00*.06=1.32 so the TAX is a dollar and 32 cents
2. Add 22+1.32= $23.32 is the price after tax
Now the one step method is to understand that if something increases by a certain % you multiply it by 1+the percent
so 22*1.06= $23.32

6*22 = tax on shirt = 132
132/100 = $1.32 in tax
$22.00 + $1.32 = $23.32
The sweatshirt costs $23.32

Ok take the price of the shirt- 22.00 and multiply the tax in (whatever it is) in this case- 0.06 (1 is 100%)
22.00 times 0.06
Now take that answer and add it to 22.00
Convert to money terms (Stick a $ in front) and Voila!

22.00 * 1.06
Formula for total cost is price x (1 +taxrate)
Don't forget to convert the percentage of tax to a decimal by moving the decimal point 2 places to the left (ex. 6% = .06)
To find out the origninal price of something using the total cost, divide the total cost by (1 + taxrate)
