It's a White man's colloquialism which has no meaning outside of the context of White culture.
It means that everyone needs assistance sometimes, even if they are too proud (or White) to readily accept it.

Well here's what I think it means:
don't be so stubbern ( hard headed) that you let something be lost, breakup with someone that you really care about, becuase you said something that offended them , even if you were right, apologize to them and tell them you were wrong and they were right.
OR
you told a bold face lie on someone to someone to get out of punishment ( like I changed my grade on my report card and tried to pass it off as if I didn't do it & you got caught), go ahead and own up to your mistake and take the punishment like a real person.

It means that you need to show tolerance and bend your reasoning. Essentially your pride has caused you to be in disagreement with something and in order to save face you'll have to bend.
