RE:
Is there a place to buy a lump of coal?
I'm trying to find this for a very deserving individual. I'm sure a lot of people know someone who deserves it too. It will be an awesome xmas gift. Just one small lump of real coal. Where can I get it?

I thought I once saw a small Christmas stocking one year for sale somewhere that was filled with very small lumps of coal. I forget where that was. It could have been Pamida, but I'm not sure. Once my older sister wrapped up an entire bag of coal and gave it to my younger brother. This bag weighed several pounds and was larger than the other presents under the tree that year.

Lots of novelty stores such as Coach House Gifts or Spencer Gifts have lumps of coal right now. Also I searched on ebay and found lumps of coal for sale.
My husband wanted one last year to put in his dad's stocking, so a friend found him one next to the railroad tracks. Loads of coal are going somewhere everyday close to where we live. Coal falls off the cars as they travel by.

PLEASE - tell the interested parties that you need the lump of coal to go "First Footing" with on NYE! Furthermore, about the only place you're likely to find real coal anywhere near London is going to be at a preserved steam railway - BUT - check out if there are any steam "excursions" running from Victoria, because if there are any, you could ask the engine driver for a lump! (and NO, I'm NOT joking ! ! !)

If you don't feel like buying a bag of coal at the grocery store, you can probably find some coal at a barbecue pit in a park. It will be free! If you can't find any there (since it is not the best time of the year for it!) put something on Craigslist. I'm sure someone will offer you a coal for free if you come and pick it up. :)

Have you looked in the yellow pages to see if coal distributors are still listed. Is there a blacksmith in your area who shoes horses? He may have coal to use in his forge. If you are near a railroad which services the coal mining area you may find a piece of coal along the tracks.

Walk along railroad tracks, there is always coal there that has fallen off of coal cars.
