Aren't they all

2007-11-26 09:58:21 · answer #1 · answered by D.C. B 4 · 0 4

Well I am a christian and was always told that you cannot be both. I mean they say the bible directly rejects the idea of being gay. They say it is the deepest sin. Sins can't be judged by human nature because we all sinners. Only God can judge because he is sinless. Everyone sins, and I dont know many people who follow the bible word for word. So I dont believe in homosexuality but people make the bibIe work for them all the time. I don't know if it is a choice or not. I know that I never liked girls and always liked guys. Maybe its nature and nurture that makes you that way. People can change which leads me to think it can be a choice. Sometimes in college people experiment and than decide to change their sexuality. Even some scientist have come out and said their was a gay gene and differences in the brain . It used to be thought on the psychology DSM that it was a disorder. Either way its hard to live that way, just as hard as being a minority. No real answer really.

Homosexuality is NOT a choice. People are born homosexual ... so are animals, birds, and fish. Only people can make a choice, so homosexuality can not be a choice. Yes, a true Christian or a Muslim can be homosexual, although since people of both those religions 'disapprove' most of the homosexuals I know are either atheist, agnostic or Catholic. The Catholics are Christians, but they feel that anyone who is human needs God, and while the 'powers that be' may disapprove of homosexuality, my church, and the cathedral church in my diocese both have many gay people on their staffs, and in the pews every mass.

Have (had...anyway..uncertain situation due to some troubles) a friend: deeply catholic, in a way you would love. Helpful, the true impersonation of charity. And very, very intelligent: he always has an opinion over something, or he quickly makes one up when needed.
And his opinions on the ideal of family, his believings are perfectly straight.

Except for the fact he IS NOT.
He would never allow himself into "that sin", nor he would reveal what he feels. And if there was a time in which, growing up, he ever wondered what to do..well..that time is long gone. He sent that doubt so deep inside that, I believe in my final conclusions about him, he lied and keep on lieing to everybody. Including himself.

He would say he's not gay. But maybe he'd do that because "he's not allowed to". Parents, church, ideals.
And surely he's not balanced, nor happy..Struggle, is the word that describes him best. Quiet, silent under his skin, but struggle.

So, answering to your question, my personal opinion is:
you're born with it. And you can't really be a real catholic, if you're one. You can be a good man. You can be fitting 99% of the requirements, you can be a better one than many else.
But you're not a perfect man for your church. And as long as BEING something (being homosexual, ie) is something that is lifelasting (and, unlike other heavy sins, can't be redeemed) you are out of God's grace.
(Well thinking of it: if you don't lure yourself of loving a same-gender human, you're safe and sound..but that's just against nature, I'd say)

I say catholic because, unlike muslims and general Christians, there is a central power (church of Rome) which is actually authorized to say what's wrong or right (on religioun's matters) worldwide.
Luterans, or muslims, just like Protestants have no authority but God (which is, actually, silent) and on His behalf, a book (which could be "freely" interpretated)

Sorry but I do not agree. I have friends that are homosexual and a family member It is not a choice it is just like men and women being attracted to each other. For some reason they are attracted to the same sex. Why can't a person who believes in god be homosexual? God loves all creatures and I do not feel that god would ban anyone if he truly loved all. God created them in the first place right. We should all just learn to accept others without judgment. That is truly what god wanted in the first place and what has been taught to me growing up. I can not believe that would exculde some one who is a homosexual. They do not bash my way of life so why would I bash them.

any answer you get for your first question will be the bias of the answerer. the question is highly debated with anti-gays usually saying its pure choice (or socially developed) and pro-gays usually saying its inborn, socially developed, or sometimes a combo (whereupon inborn or socially aquired homosexuality is only expressed openly if it is socially acceptable.) It is most definitley not a pure choice to be gay in an gay-hating world. Why would someone choose to be gay in a society that treats gays worse than they treat animals? Personally (for my bias) i dont think gays choose to be gay anymore than others choose to be straight. Whether the cause is genetic or socially aquired is somewhat of a futile question because homosexuals are what they are regardless of how they got that way (comming back to the assertion that is most certainly not a choice).
There are those that would argue that accepting gays will promote homosexuality in the society and increase the number of gays in the world, but these people have what is technically known as ***-for-brains. Acceptance of homosexuality will increase the number of gays that will publicly admit their already existing state of mind (due to lack of scrutiny), but it will not convert biologically straight people into gays. this is seen in cases of two gay parents with adopted children. the children are no more likely to be gay than are the children of a straight couple, even though a gay household would undoubtedly be accepting of it.

the second question is even more biased of an answer because there is no absolute answer. if anyone knew for sure what a true christian or muslim was, there wouldn't be so many sects of the two religions with conflicting views in all of them.

Both. Some are born that way, some on the other hand become homo's because of influence. Some are actually raped as kids and leads them to becoming Homosexual.

Religious People will argue that you cannot be born this way. But thats narrow mindedness. Science has already proved that some people are born this way. Heck they even experimented on rats - they genetically altered some rats to be homosexual. And it worked, male rats were attracted to other male rats as an ordinary male rat would be to a female one.

oh fun...

Could it be that what determines our sexual orientation is defined by who we choose to have sexual relations with?

If I declare myself a heterosexual, I am making a statement specifying what gender I do or am willing to engage in sexual activity with. No?

If one has an attraction to a woman, as a woman....are they lesbian if they do not engage in that sexual activity that defines lesbians as such? If they love spending time together, but their behavior is limited to going to movies...are they lesbian? I think not.

Could it be that the assertion that sexual orientation is strictly genetic serves only to remove 'choice in behavior' from the debate?

Can a murderer be born a murderer, if they never actually murder anyone? What defines a persons title is the behavior, not the propensity.

If one is 'born' gay, but never engages in homosexual acts.....are they gay?
If what one does in their bedroom is what defines their sexual orientation.....everyone has a choice what they do.
What makes it right or wrong depends on the value system you embrace....another choice. Or you can also look at the natural consequences and assign a right or wrong value based on that outcome.

If I don't believe in a God.......to be told something I want to do is wrong will be offensive. Thus the secular and religious will forever butt heads on this issue.

However, if you do believe in a God that belief must be based on a trust factor in that relationship with that God.........
Christian faith teaches that we are not our own God, and that we are born with a sin 'nature' or a propensity to act as our own God.....we have a choice to lie, becoming a liar....a choice to kill, becoming a murderer......a choice have sex with a child, becoming a pedaphile....etc.

The choice really comes down to whether or not you will be your own God or put your faith in the Christian God or other.
To remove the debate on choice by declaring it completely genetics is really just an attempt to squash the social debate by interjecting a scientific component.

But a scientist can not discect my brain when I die and say I was really gay if I limited all of my sexual involvment to someone of the opposite sex........or vice versa.

What makes one gay is who they choose to have sex with. What makes one worry about it as right or wrong pivots on what belief system they put their faith in.
What makes one say its genetic is so they can either dismiss that God or blame him.

In Christianity sin is sin whether it be stealing or murder. You can't say I'm good because I don't participate in the homosexual lifestyle, but I lie like a rug.

Sans God?............who would really care?

Just my nickels worth.

I think it[s both. some people are drawn towards the same sex. that's just the way they are, that's all.

true christians as well as true muslims sin, just like true jews and true anything else. come to think of it, I guess we all sin. we think and do bad things.

if you disobey your father, you are still his son, though your sins against him will hurt him.

a good christian or an obedient muslim tries to do what is right. often they do, sometimes they don't

if you choose a lifestyle that continually offends your heavenly father, do you love your sin more than God?

i'm straight, but i dont think its a choice. some people may be born that way, others not. a true christian can be homosexual because it is not a sin to be homosexual, it is to practice it.

You are BORN the way that you are born - but it is up to YOU to decide if you are going to act on these desires (gay OR straight) or not...

And what exactly is a "true" x-tian/muslim?!?!?!?!? Faith is NOT measured by how "true" you are - only that you HAVE faith!

It is ALSO your decision to accept (or deny) religious teachings if they contradict the way you CHOOSE to live your life...

Notice a theme here - CHOICE ;););););)
