Is it ok to have birth control in your system if you are having the surgery?

No. Doctor's recommend that if you know you are going to have surgery, you stop taking the birth control pill for around 1 month before. This is because the pill can slightly increase the risk of a blood clot forming, and since surgery, and having to stay still for a while afterwards, also increases the risks of clots, better not to add to the risk factors.
If in doubt talk it out with your doctor.

It should be just fine, double check with your doctor if you're worried. I've had surgery while on birth control. It was depo though, and the pills are a little different, but still same general thing.

Your surgeon should have asked you all the meds you are on and given you instructions about which, if any, to stop and how long ahead of surgery you should stop.

In all likelihood, you should continue the bc pills unless you plan way ahead and stop them. Otherwise your hormones would be messed up at the time of the surgery, you'd be having breakthrough bleeding, etc.
