the first answer is correct. They are all associated with plate boundaries.

Hawaii is a special case involving what is called a "hot spot." An area where the crust is particularly thin. And yes - even there, plate movements dictate the order of the island's creation... OK, so my first answer wasn't 100% complete... Sue me!

If the first two people are correct, then ask them how come Hawaii is volcanically active...it is nowhere near a plate boundary.

Beyond that, I suggest you read your class notes or the text book that your teacher provided. As you can see, Yahoo Answers is about the worst place imaginable to get "correct" answers to your homework questions.
