Why are they all silent now? Is it because they live in Malibu and the Hamptons and never really bought into antiwar messages in the first place?

Sorry, I meant the 'anti Vietnam war sentiment'.

Actually most of them are putting their money where their mouth is, and not making a big show of it. They had less money back in the day and had to make a big noise to be heard. Now they have the money. Would you want their contributions put up against yours in public? Who has done more to support this country?

Edit: None of them were anti-American, just anti-war. Better a patriotic rabble rouser than a submissive sheep.

They "sold out" many years ago for the money. They started out as ideological people and pretty much immaterialists. But over time, they realized that their efforts really had no effect on the government's decisions. I doubt that the President who negotiated the truce in Vietnam in 1973 (Nixon), was a big fan of these musicians. Nowadays, they realize that their music has no real power for change, and no one wants to be perceived as the next Jane Fonda.

I think Bob Dylan just changes with the times, jumping from trend to trend. The rest of 'em made tons of money and retired. Heck, if I made tons of money, I'd retire.

But yes, most singers who sing about this, that, or the other rebel message, are not really into that message. They're into paying for another room on the mansion or a jacuzzi to add to the swimming pool...

No...we ( and i was one of them) bought into the Vietnam anti-war message. The problem is we are now baby boomers, at least 60 years old...no longer have the emotional energy to protest. Being 60 means we aren't on the same life page as today's generation...no connection

Where are today's singers? why aren't they in the forefront of anti-war protests?

They are not silent.
They have lost market share because they are no longer as popular as they once were.
There are other groups that have taken up the anti war banner.

Sadly though, the people feel powerless against Bush-co that has shown a willingness to toss out the constitution and popular opinion to continue this war.

I went through the Vietnam war era and we didn't feel powerless or disillusioned.

Now I do.

Peace

Who knows-are YOU really able to determine their motives? And who cares? What's important is whether or not you agreed with their actions and the results, not what their specific, individual motives were.
