I'm writing about the actions taken by the British in regards to the American colonies pre-revolution. I'm up to the intolerable acts and I don't know what to write after it. I just wrote about the second continental congress but what else? Help me, please. Thanks.

The key IS indeed the "First Continental Congress". You can actually see EXACTLY what they said and did about the Intolerable acts by looking at the key resolutions they passed, found in the links below.

Here is an overview of their actions. The first two were specific responses to the "Intolerable Acts" (or "Coercive Acts" to the British) and "Quebec Act" passed by Parliament earlier that year (all in response to the Boston Tea Party).

1) October 14 - "Declarations and Resolves"
laid out their complaints to the King and Parliament. These were based on the "Suffolk Resolves" offered by folks in the Boston area (and carried to Philadelphia by Paul Revere)

Here's the text (It's well worth reading, because it specifies the British policies they are objecting to, and why, shows you the background of the later Declaration of Independence and the basic appeal of the colonies to English history --the English "Constitution" and their rights as Englishmen-- and not just to John Locke, as many tend to think.)

2) October -- the "Articles of Association"
A pact agreeing on the terms of their joint resistance to Britain, including non-importation of goods (boycott)

These steps were only to go into effect if Parliament failed to rescind the Intolerable Acts (first step of "non-importation" on Dec 1, 1774 --as it did-- second step in Sept of 1775)

(This is another excellent document to read for the colonial interpretation of events from 1763 on.)

3) Call for a SECOND Congress if these concerns were NOT resolved by the following spring. (as it was -- the famous "Second Continental Congress")

Some good quick summaries of the Congress's actions:

The First Continental Congress declared that the British had to revoke or modify the Intolerable Acts, then they set up the Second Continental Congress to met in May, 1775, the second congress was supposed to decide a course of action if the British didn't revoke the Intolerable Acts.
However, in April 1775, the first shots were fired at Lexington and Concord and the Revolutionary War started before the second congress could met.
The Second Continental Congress then took on war-time duties.
