x² + 2x - 8 = (x + 4)(x - 2)

x^2 + 2x - 8 => (x+4)(x-2)=0 => x=-4 or x=2

x² + 2x - 8 = 0
x² + 2x = 8
x² + 2x + 1 = 8 + 1
(x+1)² = 9

x + 1 = ±3
x = -1 ± 3
x = -4, 2
