Most of these components can be found at Newegg.com, but use pricegrabber.com to search for lowest prices and Amazon is worth checking as well.
The 8800GT is sold out everywhere but Dell.com has the XFX in stock for about $235, great price at the moment.
Case: Antec Nine Hundred($50)
Power Supply: Corsair 520HX ($80)
Processor: Intel E6750($190)
Motherboard: Gigabyte DS3L($90) but if you want Raid 0 go with the Abit IP35
Memory: 2GB Crucial Ballistix PC2 6400($60)
Video Card: Any 8800GT 512mb($235)
Hard Drive: 500GB Sata($105)
DVD Burner: Any dual layer dvd burner($30)
About $800 so far
That's about it for the insides of the PC. All you gotta do is pick out your keyboard, mouse, and headphone/speakers and monitor.
This thing will lay waste to any pre-built system within $400-$500.
Good luck.
CyberPC wants to sell this system to you for $1300 before tax and shipping: http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/Gamer_Infinity_8800_Pro/
The case is $180 at newegg.

The upper posts that say custombuilts are better and cheaper are right. A good gaming PC should have all the tweaking options. Check out this guide:
http://arstechnica.com/guides/buyer/guide-200707.ars/2
Consider the new 8800GT graphics card instead.

Gotta agree with Karbon, with gaming pcs, you're gonna have to know how to fix them. It's not like going and buying a xbox 360. If you build it yourself, you can have a far better computer than you would get if you bought a pre-built one, it will also be alot cheaper. I built my computer for $1200, if I had bought it pre-built it would have cost me double.

What games are you wanting to play? Do you have any skills at building a computer? There are some good "barebone" deals out there:
Check out:
http://www.tigerdirect.com
They have a lot of good deals, their products have done right by me. They all have review, and will tell you if they are good game systems .....
Hope this helps!

First of all, stop being a specs whore.
Secondly, build your own. You'll save money and gain knowledge. What if one of your components decides to pack in? You have no knowledge to repair it and thus will have to take it back.
I hate PC Gamers who have no intention to learn anything about computers and yet brag about their specs?
