I would think stem cell applications top the list. There are also tremendous applications of genetic research occurring in agriculture and environmental / geophysical sciences. The space elevator is generating entire new technologies in itself. Robotics is big. Cosmetic chemistry is targeting the aging Baby Boomer wrinklers. Alternative fuel technologies rage on. And, computer / communication technologies are forging forth with such things as paint that can be applied to anything that then acts as a computer screen. Buckyballs are being used in pharmacological science. Nanotechnology is big. And, breakthroughs in particle science are close to discovering a way to fundamentally make energy rather than merely harvesting it.
