I know that none of you guys can really answer this for me, but I would like your opinions on what you think might happen. My dad brought up that there is a car for sale in our area, a very nice gas friendly car, a 2006 model for only 3,000. I have a job and make about 140 a week. Im only 15 so I can only work weekends, but as soon as I turn 16 (june) I will start working full time (it will be summer break). I think im going to ask for the car for christmas and pay atleast 1/2 of it back to my dad. I dont think we will be able to find a deal like this again, so I would like to take advantage of it now. I do make all A's and B's and plan to go to college, so I will need it for that. Your thoughts?

i think that's a great idea, finally a teen willing to work for her money! there are some, but i mean you are working out of your own (seems like it) and at least you are willing to pay half. if you were my kid (lol would be virtually impossible) and i had the money, i would definitely be willing to go half.
Well done on being so responsible and independant!!!

It sounds like a great deal. Just keep all the other expenses in mind. Talk to your parents about car insurance (extremely expensive for teen drivers!), gas and repairs and see how much they are willing to help you. $140 is not a lot of money each week. By getting a car you are gaining freedom but might lose out on your spending money and getting to do some of the things you want to do. Balance it out and make sure it's what you want. Also make sure you and your parents discuss rules for times you can drive and how many people you can transport. Car accidents are one of the biggest causes of death for teenagers so please be safe. I got my first car at 16 and although at the time it made sense, it took all of my money and then some. Good luck. You sound like a smart kid.

A 2006 for $3000 sounds too good to be true, but if it truly is unwrecked and in great condition it sounds like you should go ahead and buy it.
Just remember that your parents or you will have to pay about $400 a month just for your insurance for the first few years. The cost of the car is just the beginning!

A 2006 for only $3000? Sounds fishy to me. What kind of car is it? If you are looking to make the payments think about the fact that it will cost more than just the price of the car. There is insurance, maintenance and gas to consider.

You would be surprised how many deals you will be able to find next year.
I would save your money and try for it again next summer or next christmas. You have to remember insurance payments and registration and maintenance. If you are going to be scraping for cash to pay for your own christmas present, why don't you warn your dad now so that he can save money as well and you two go car shopping together next summer.
A good vehicle at a good deal is worth waiting for.
And what the lady said above me is true. an 06 for $3000 is more like a clunker (probably flooded previously. about 60% of used cars that are "deals" are flooded after Katrina.) I would have your dad check under the hood.

A 2006 model for only $3,000.00? I have to ask, whats wrong with the car?
If the car is in god shape, try to at the least, convince your dad to pick the car up now (so you don't miss the deal) and hold it to your ready, financially and responsibly.
God luck to you
