Chicago's American and Chicago Daily News. The Field Corporation owned both the Sun-Times and the Daily News. The Tribune Corporation owner the Tribune and Chicago's American. The morning papers survived but the afternoon papers folded. Chicago's American had also long been known as the Herald-American. I remember in the 60's the price of a newspaper was 10 cents but the American cost only 7 cents. Keyboards back then did not have the tilde but usually had a cents sign.
