I'm a first time home buyer, and I'm getting Natural gas hooked up. Does this sound like a good deal? Are they trying to rip me off by wording it like it's a fixed rate? Is it a fixed rate? I don't know anything about this....HELP!

Service Plan: Variable Market Limited Plan
Price per Therm:1.459
Monthly Service Plan: $9.99

There is no such thing as a permanently fixed rate for natural gas. I'd venture that the $9.99 figure is your standard monthly fee just to have the service available, and the $1.459/therm rate is what is currently being charged per therm of natural gas consumed.

(Concerning the reply above, it's total nonsense. There are millions of homes in the US reliably and cleanly heated by natural gas. In most cases, natural gas is the least expensive form of heat you can get.)

DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT GO NATURAL GAS...ONE IT WILL MAKE ALL YOUR CLOTHES AND FURNITURE DAMP,,,,IT CUTS DOWN THE LIFE OF THE PAINT ON YOUR WALLS...AND ITS NOT A GOOD DEAL...YOU NEED TO CHANGE TO TOTAL ELECTRIC...MY SISTER FELL FOR THE NATURAL GAS BIT ON HER NEW HOUSE, AND IN LESS THAN A YEAR CHANGED OVER TO TOTAL ELECTRIC AND IT WAS CHEAPER IN THE LONG RUN...NATURAL GAS IS NOT THE CHEAPEST WAY TO GO......
