I got scammed selling a ipod on craigs list, i have the information of the person so can i get them punshised at all. The person said they were doing a money order, and i had recieved an email saying that the money order has been processed and once i sent the tracking number for the shipment the money order would be sent to my house. i sent the tracking number and they said that the money order has been sent. Now the person emailed me saying that they went through a buisness that disguised themselves as usps and that her money had been taken. Is there anything i can do to get this straight.

Craigslist is pretty clear in advising you to "Deal Local" and to avoid money orders. You might be screwed on this one, sorry to say.

sounds like a variation of the "advanced fee fraud". never ship the item until you have the cash in hand. NEVER!! Once they have the tracking number they know they have their prize and they can come up with a plethra of excuses on why you dont have your money. It probably was never sent to begin with.

how do they go thru a business that "disguises" themselves as the post office? that should have been the red flag.

Find the emails, find out if they were genuine or not (these may be phishing pages, scamming pages).

If they are not authentic, it is probable you have yourself the scammer. If they are authentic, carry on to level two.

Both you and the buyer work at it (make them supply you with the company he used etc) if he fails to comply etc, again, it is probably quite safe to say he is the scammer.

In probably over 60% of the time something like that fails, its an actual scammer.

Where did you ship to? Please dont tell me Nigeria :(

If you've deemed this person as a scammer, contact the police.

I would never purchase anything off of CL that I couldn't pick up personally. CL is meant to be for community exchanges, not long distance. That's why there is eBay.
