Choice or necessity?

do you tackle home improvement/repair projects yourself because you like to or because you can't find a qualified and/or affordable craftsperson?

my reasons are a little of both: some jobs are beyond my skill level,so I bring in the expensive pros.Most I can do so I do them as a form of relaxation.Not the fastest in the world but i do good work.

A little of both. We truly enjoy not only doing home improvement projects and learning how to do it right. Often, we hire professionals for more complicated jobs. Hubby can do basic wiring but we hired an electrician to put in the 220 line for our spa because our code required it be installed by a licensed professional. Same thing for the hot water heater and the water softener. But, most of the time we are much more detail oriented and pay attention to the small things that many contractors over look. And, it sure is fun and fulfilling to see the project through to completion and say, wow, I designed and constructed that!

I usually find a bf or other willing gentleman to help me out. It is amazing what men will do if you smile at them and act helpless.

I know, I'm an embarrasment to my gender, but hey, who can afford a plumber?

I have worked as an electrician, plumber, drywaller, painter, hurricane protection, window installer, Maytag man and others I can;t think of right now. So I do it because I can.

We do it ourselves.... and basically for the reason we cant shell out that much money for a contractor. Trust me if I could, I would have called them in a LONG time ago *sigh*

We do most of it ourselves as my Hubby is a jack of all trades.
