I am close to being put on bed rest (I will find out more on Thursday), so in preparation, I was hoping to get some tips on making this possible when I have small children here already. I am trying to take it easy right now, especially with lifting my youngest and I have been asking my oldest, (4 year old) to get me things. Do you have any other tips? Thanks.

Keep toys, non-perishable snacks, diapers, games, etc in your room. If you have a travel crib use that for the youngest in your room. Get a mini-fridge to keep juice boxes, bottles of milk, mircowave lunch items, etc, and get a cheap microwave at Walmart to keep in there.

It kind of depends on the age of your children. I'm not sure you have a spouse, or someone living with you, so I'll try to help either way. You can also email me if you have questions, as I'm glad to help. Bedrest is my forte.. by default..

Some things that I did: I had husband move computer and desk into our bedroom. Same with the television. If you have a small child/children then you have to keep an eye on them, so from the time your spouse (if you have one) leaves for work, until he comes home, kids are going to be pretty much with you in that room at all times. Stock up on educational computer games, and movies. In your room you will want things like coloring books/crayons, reading books, games, or whatever you can think of. I considered all bets off when it came to limiting computer time, or TV time when I was on bedrest as making sure the baby was carried safely to term was more important than being strict about one hour of TV a day (or whatever). Whatever kept them occupied where I could see them, without having to get up and check on them was my goal. I was on very strict bedrest.

If you can have someone help with meals at dinner time, have them prepare extra so you can re-heat for lunch... or have them make lunch for you before they leave for work.

If you don't have a nightstand, get a TV stand or something that will work for a little table to put by your bed. Keep things you use a lot in or on this stand. Keep it within arms reach, even if it looks ugly :-)

If you have any questions, feel free to IM or email me. I'll be glad to help you brainstorm if you have any specific concerns. I hope your bedrest (if you go on it) is short and uneventful :-)

Best wishes!!

You need some help!! :) I was on bed rest, complete with my pregnancy, 7th month....My son brought me a cooler in the morning before he went to school (he was 16 at the time) filled with cheese cubes, nuts, fruit...applesauce and the like, a water "bladder" filled with fresh water (bikers use these when they bike or hike)..... and the TV remote, phone and a sign on the door not to disturb as a lady was on bed rest....
my friends had keys to the front door...and I had ladies who volunteered one day a week to bring a hot dish for our dinner...
I had friends who had volunteered to come and do "cleaning"...dusting, vacuuming, etc and changing the sheets on the bed.... (am a single mom, by the way....)
I would seriously make a list of friends and family who can help in those ways and who can come and watch the little ones...it is soooo important to stay down...you are making a baby and you want to keep him safe...you can do that by enlisting an "army" to help!! :) Good luck!!
Happy with a vivacious rambunctious 21 month old!!!!

What I would do if I was put on bed rest would be to put a tv in the bedroom and the kiddies can come into bed with you and watch movies. It will be a good bonding time for you and your little ones until the baby is there, when you won't have so much time.
even just having them sit on the bed and cuddle and tell stories. Kids will love that

Talk to your family and friends. See how much help they can give you, don't be ashamed of asking for help. IF the Dr. puts you on bedrest, then do it. Maybe see if someone can cook your family some meals, and then when you are off of bedrest, just pay back the kindness. Good Luck to you!

All of the other tips are wonderful, but take it from another woman that was on bedrest - just because you are on bedrest doesn't mean that you have to stay in bed all the time.

I was even able to leave the house, but not for long periods.

Ask grandma to baby sit or come over and help you.
