i dont know the difference between a pci express x16 slot and a 2.0 slot. is there a difference and are they compatible vice-versa?

The new ATI HD3850, 3870 and Geforce 8800GT that support PCIe 2.0 are backward compatible with PCIe 1.1 (current). It is really the multicard set ups (SLI or X-Fire) that would benefit the most from PCIe 2.0.

2.0 is the newer version. Any graphic Card well work with the new slots. I don't think there are any PCI Express 2.0 cards out yet. once the new cards come out then only those cards would be able to be used in 2.0 slots.
But any card you get now would work in both the old and the new.

The guy above me is a retard.. PCI express 2.0 is backwards compatible with a PCI express x16 slot, I fit in an XFX GeForce 8800GT that require PCI Express 2.0 in my mobo, so yes, it'll work
