(-7x-14) is the same as -2(x+2)
(10x+20) is the same as 10(x+2)
so (-7x-14)/(10x+2) = [-2(x+2)]/[10(x+2)]
since (x+2) is in the top (numerator) and bottom (denominator), they cancel..(x+2)/(x+2)=1..right?
now, all that's left is (-2)/(10) = -1/5

factor out (x+2) from top and bottom and you are left with -7/10 after they cancel.
