If I take a sewing pattern and make an outfit out of it and put it on the market. Can I be sued by the company that makes the sewing pattern or whoever designed it?

yes you can, because its not originally your design.. if you altered a few things like if the dress is strapless & you add straps, you can put it on the market then.. the website asos.com do that all the time.. they take a dress they saw somewhere else & change a few things and market it as they're own (the site stands for as seen on screen)

Yes. There are copyright laws. If you make it for yourself you wont get sued, but I think that if you try to sell it, it is against the law. But, I am not sure because Forever 21 and the other stores copy designers, but I have heard them get sued because something was too close to a designer.

Possibly. It's like passing off someones term paper as your own. Most patterns are the property of the company that sold them.

You should make your own design and then you won't stress about getting sued. Just make sure that nobody else thought of the design before you.

if it is a brand pattern like Chanel's CCs or the lion from Versace you probably will but if it is just a regular pattern you should be ok.
