Mechanical labor positions, that still require some training, pay well such as plumbers, electricians, etc. Nursing is huge right now, but again requires training. Most decent jobs, where you can earn a "good" living require some alternate training. Sales job can eventually lead to management positions if the person is a hard worker, proactive, and noticeably intelligent. I started as an assistant in a major company (I have 3 years college but no degree) and now I have a position in HR (after 6 years). Sometimes union jobs in manufacturing (auto), mining, etc. have a good starting salary and benefits. Depending where you live, there may not be a lot of good-paying entry level jobs with just a high school degree unless you get lucky.

secretaries! if you work for a larger company, you may have to start off as a receptionist, but you can quickly work your way up to being a secretary, and get good benefits. i think that retail is better as a supplemental job, only because they notoriously skimp on their benefits, which is a crucial part of your pay package. also, something to look into is nursing; they make great money, and are one of the industries where the demand for more employees has been skyrocketing. many schools offer a 2-year program, and there are a bunch of programs you can take online. also, there's a lot of flexibility in the field, and a TON of options. gl!

Notice that many of these do not require a degree but will require experience or on-the-job training.
