I was just wondering if maybe anyone knew what kind of philosopher he was?

Fyodor Dostoevsky is generally acknowledged to be one of the founding fathers of modern existentialism, comparable to Soren Kierkegaard and Friedrich Nietzsche. His novel "Notes from the Underground" is generally considered to be the first literary work of existentialism.

I'm pretty sure you mean, Fyodor Dostoyevsky.

Great Russian author!! I recently read 'crime & punishment'
& had a copy of 'the Idiot' but after reading about 100 pages I realized many pages had been torn out of the copy I had. Yes, I did feel like an idiot!.
