I'm going to an office holiday cocktail party. My dress is black, strapless, and lacy with sequins here and there. This is a conservative crowd and I don't want to make the wrong impression. Should I wear black pantyhose with my dress?
And, I would like to wear closed-toed shoes with this dress. Would it look really bad if I wore open-toed shoes with stockings? I've seen people do it before but not sure what to think about it.

I think you should wear nude or tan, very sheer hose with open toe dressy heels... If the hose are sheer enough, you won't even be able to tell that you have hose on those toes!
I recommend hose with a hint of 'coffee' color to them to go with your black dress...

Wear the black pantyhose and the closed-toe shoes. I understand it is a party, but this idea is a mistake. Everyone in the office always remembers the the individual who had to much to drink or the person who threw up in the bushes. If this truly is a conservative crowd, I think you answered your own question by including this, then you should dress a bit more buttoned down. If you want to wear the stockings and the open toed shoes, then find some guy to have dinner with the next day.

OMG I wear them every day to the office, and so do all the female employees, just as the male employees wear shoes socks and a tie. Why would you want to look like a tramp and go to a holiday party, where at least the female employees always dress up more than an ordinary work day and go with bare legs and heels?

You should wear closed pumps with the dress, but if the open toe shoes are just peep toe and not sandals you can wear them with very sheer stockings. I prefer sheer black but you could wear tan. I personally always wear stockings and not pantyhose because they are way more sheer and comfortable than pantyhose.

Pantyhose Party

I would go with either black or tan sheer pantyhose. Make sure you buy a good quality pair that have some Lycra in them, don't buy the cheap drug store brands. Go with the closed toe heels. You will look fantastic!

I wouldn't recommend wearing stockings or thigh highs to the party. Not that I have anything against stockings and thigh highs but this is not the setting. This is a Conservative holiday party, you don't want to take the risk of bending down to pick something up, or moving around on the dance floor and have the tops of your stockings or thigh highs show. My advise is to go with pantyhose.

We don't even go to the office on weekdays without pantyhose or stockings, so I don't know why you would not wear them to a Holiday party when people dress up more than the everyday work attire. Since when is dressing correctly creating the wrong impression. Running around in heels and business clothes or cocktail dresses with bare legs and open shoes is contrary to good business sense.

Wear sheer black stockings and closed pumps with your black dress for a in December holiday party. Open toe shoes are OK if they are just peep toes, not sandals. Just make sure you have really sheer stockings.

,I can't believe you wouldn't. We can't even go to the office on a regular workday without hosiery, so how could you go to an evening Gala party with bare legs and heels? That would leave the wrong impression unless you are going to a hooker convention, the trademark of bare legs, dresses and heels.

You should wear closed pumps, with sheer black stockings to match the dress. Pantyhose are usually thicker, so you would be better off with ultra sheer stockings. since use the words interchangeably stockings stop at the thigh, and panthose are the nasty things with the 1950's panty attached that covers up your butt and all your nice undies. That's why they are so unpopular. The fashionable thing now is stockings and thigh highs.

Definitely sheer black stockings. Stay away from the heavy ones loaded with Lycra, the show snags ans color variations. I usually wear real stockings not pantyhose for that reason, they are s much more sheer and thin. With black stockings I prefer closed pumps, they are way sexier, and more appropriate for a December party. Open shoes are way overrated, and truthfully look a Little cheap, as do bare legs and toes when dressed up.

You should definitely wear stockings to a Holiday office party, we wear them everyday to work, just like the guys wear socks and ties to work. It is tacky to wear a dress and heels in to a dressy affair especially in December with bare legs.

As for wearing thigh highs or stockings, I don't know if the last writer has ever worn them but we all wear them everyday to the office, and with knee length or 2" above knee length, skirts in the office all day, nobody bending over file cabinets or sitting cross legged at a desk is showing their stocking tops. In fact the older women with the control top pantyhose are apt to show those horrible pantyhose panty tops before one of us girls wearing nice long stockings or thigh highs will be seen.

I also prefer closed pumps, at dressy affairs especially in December.

You would look very cheap if you didn't. I don't know what kind of office you work in , but in mine women wear hosiery every day to work, and it would look really trashy to go out in a sequin dress and heels with bare legs, especially in the evening and in December.

I think you should wear elegant sheer black stockings and closed pumps. If the open toe shoe is a closed shoe with a peep toe that would be OK if the stockings are really sheer.

You will give the wrong impression if you don't! It is an evening party in December and you are wearing sequins! Women at mu office wear stocking everyday to work, why wouldn't you wear them to a party? Stockings are classy, bare legs are crass. Don't you ladies get it. Stop looking at Hollywood stars, and look at the real world, where well dressed women don't run around with bare legs with their painted toes hanging out of sandals with heels, no matter how much they cost or how tan you are.
