LEDs can be put on a dimmer. However, some styles of LEDs will flicker like a strobe and that may drive you crazy. If that happens, get a strand of conventional lights and plug them to the LEDs to generate an electrical load which will eliminate flicker or flash.
If you have other questions about the use and applications of LED lights, I would suggest that you consider joining the forum at http://www.PlanetChristmas.com Membership is free and you are not spammed after joining.

Yes, you can put them on a dimmer. As the the user said, they might flicker. If you don't want blinding LED lights, try using the ones that have covers over them which will diffuse & bend the light (creating a softer glow that is still vibrant in color). These can be C5, C7, or C9 types. There are also some sets that are the same shape & size as traditional mini set lights.
Try Target, Sam's Club, Home Depot, Lowes, etc...Sam's Club probably has the best priced ones if you're a member there & they come in very neat over-sized thick boxes. Great for packing them away year after year.
PS: If you get the new twinkling LED sets or any sets that have "8-function" controllers on them...do not dim them!
See the link below for 1 of the 5 LED tree lighting Sam's Club carries. They come in multi or clear.

My family is thinking of switching to LED christmas tree lights. out only qualm is the fact that they are SO bright. Does anyone know if you can put LED lights on a dimmer? or, for people who have them, are they rediculously bright on a tree?

I just bought a new Christmas tree with 800 LED lights. They are blindingly bright! The lights have an 8 function box but none of the functions are to dim the lights and leave them dimmed. There is one setting that dims the lights from blinding bright to no lights then jumps back to blinding brightness. This keeps repeating. I just want to dim them. Any way??

No. The brightness of the conventional bulbs depends on the wattage of the bulbs. They have to be the correct wattage for a string of a particular number of bulbs or the result will be too much current passing through the other bulbs (extremely bright and short-lived) or not enough current (dim bulbs). LED bulbs use a tiny fraction of the amount of electricity used by conventional bulbs, so the result would likely be too much current passing through them, burning them out.
