I have been with my girlfriend for 6 years. We would love to get married one day. I just don't understand why people want to prevent us from doing it. We are both students right now.. she is going to become a english professor and I am in a Pre-Med program and hope to become a doctor. We are intelligent and respectful people and don't judge others. I just wish I could understand why people hate me for me just being who I am. I always think of this saying,"Will god punish me for loving, or you for hating?"

sweetie
marry her. be happy. your in love and love is love no matter what gender or race is involved in it.

nobody can stop love.

I am about done with thes homophobic jerks who tear people down all the time.
there are rapists and terrorists and abusive people out there who are causing real harm and all they are worried about is two same gendered people being in love.

they need to get a life.
and if you'll notice, most people who are homophobic are alone. therefore I have come to the conclusion that they are just jealous.

so get married
you love her
there is nothing wrong with that
love is a beautiful thing
you deserve to be happy

best of wishes to you both :)

I believe in gay marriage for, if no other reason, equality. You and your partner have been together for 6 years. Many marriages don't last that long.
If you travel to Las Vegas, get horribly drunk and marry a guy you've met that evening in a bar, he has more rights than your partner - next of kin, exemption from inheritance tax, inheritance of pension. All this to someone you've known for hours since that relationship is considered "valid" in the eyes of the law. You and your parter, however, are legally prevented from registering your relationship and that is discrimination.
Gay marriage is just granting people the same rights that heterosexuals have - to marry the person they choose.
You only have to look at the people who object to gay marriage to know that it must be a good idea.

Everyone deserves the same basic individual rights as everyone else. Marriage is for everyone and not just some.
To argue it is a religious ceremony and gay/lesbian woman can't marry the same sex is funny because some religions DO allow same sex marriage! So out flies that damn religious argument.
Marriage is a legal thing in this secular society. That is why you have to sign a marriage license (legal) to be married and to get all the legal benefits of marriage.
And if anyone still believes it is a religious (well seeing that they only count their own religion) ceremony, then do no sign the legal contract that binds you two.

I am especially in favor of same-sex marriage.

Gay marriage opens alot of doors in law that the goverment wouldn't want opened. I think the major problem is the actual name, marriage. If it was called something else, but gave the same rights and the same status, christians wouldn't care, the goverment wouldn't care, and heterosexuals wouldn't care. If "Gay marriage" was made legal across the nation, and the world, other types of marriage would have to start being considered. Incest marriages for instance.

I think it is an issue created by public relations people to create sides for the candidates to be on. It's a non-issue to me and I don't see how the legalization of gay marriage would affect anyone adversely. It would bring more tax money to the counties. People who are against it just don't have anything better to do. God is love.

Edit- I know that's right Angelika. If you pay taxes, follow the law, and are a legal citizen, you should have the same rights.

You can get married maybe not in your state but, besides its just a piece of paper. I fully understand where you coming from though. People are so close minded. They bring up God in situations that scare them and when they have no anwsers. We are all God's Children and if your not him you should not make judgement!

The people who are saying you shouldn't get married are shallow, bigoted morons. Don't pay them any attention. They don't deserve it. Surround yourself with beings of a higher level.

We have the Christian religion and perhaps others to "thank" for the hatred and disdain you're experiencing right now when it comes to same sex marriage. Frankly it's none of their business if you wanna marry your girlfriend.

The reason many straight people are objected to it, is because of prejudice, as if my, how dare those gays have the same rights as them --- the heterosexuals, the "supreme" beings.

I, my wife, and my children (now adult) all strongly support it. I still cannot understand why it is opposed by so many. The "Defense of Marriage" people really get me. I've been married for over 28 years. The only people who can threaten that marriage are my wife and me.

The heck with Religious people and bla talk. If Religious people really believed in God they would not hate Gay people. They are all nut heads in my way these religious folks.
Anyhow, I would welcome it if I could marry my true love. She is wonderful. Why should we not have the equal rights that every one has. One side the U.S brides it s self by the phrase "Equality and Liberty and Justice for all man kind." In reality they are still living in the slave stages. Wake up America.
Gay folks pay taxes too!
