My son is a five year old in kindergarten. I ordered two shirts. He came home with only one. I thought he had left it so he went back and asked his teacher and she said that she seen a student with a shirt that didnt order one. When I learned about it I called and left a message for his teacher. I am also going to send a letter in his folder. He told me the little boy was asking for his shirt and he said no, all of a sudden later it is missing. What should I do ?

At age 5 think of it as a mistake./ Speak to the parents of the boy.

Tell the teacher she has 3 options. 1.)She gets the shirt from the child. (And it had better be in as-new condition!) 2.) She orders a replacement shirt herself. 3.) She refunds you the money for the shirt out of her own pocket so that YOU can re-order the shirt yourself. Rather simple, yes?

At (5) maybe the kid doesn't understand that not everybody get's a shirt. I know it's wrong to take something if you know it's not yours but maybe this kids Mom didn't teach him that.
After all it's just a shirt I wouldn't make a big thing of it.

maybe this other kid's parents couldnt afford a shirt, and if so, think of it as a good deed around the holidays....
If they have some $$, then I'd call the parents of the other student... straighten it out that way

Contacting the teacher was the right thing to do. If the teacher can't help, then contact the boy's parents. Try your best not to sound angry.

You're doing it. As you move along in this little episode, try to avoid the word "steal." Just call it a misunderstanding.
